I grew up in North Canterbury, New Zealand and now live and work from my studio in Raglan, Waikato.

I get a profound sense of freedom and joy through creating in a ‘loose’ style with my current love for life drawing and still life scenes.

My life drawing works are predominately in charcoal and graphite. I am inspired to play with perspective, foreshortening and tonal contrast to evoke the illusion of depth. I work with a variety of lines and uncontrolled marks to convey emotion through the poses.

Drawing from live, unclothed models, posing for reasonably short periods of time allows me to capture the expression within the moment and body in time.

I like to push the boundaries of traditional life drawing through drawing relaxed figures showing comfort in one’s self, often in a non-sensual manner. I wish to portray that theme throughout my life drawing works to empower others toward body positivity and self-love.

My still life scenes are inspired from everyday moments, seeing the ordinary as extraordinary. Shadows, lights, colour shifts and composition in a scene are all aspects that I get drawn to. A new found love for watercolours and exploring colour, has found me discovering and observing closely, this beautiful world around me.

Perhaps inherited through my rowing career of 13 years where both of my hands occupied each oar, I have developed a similar approach in my artistic process using both my dominant and non-dominant hands. This allows me the freedom and variety of line that liberates and gives me joy in quirk.
